Careers Under Small Talk | Webinar

Not every career journey follows a predictable path. Yet for many young people pursuing content creation, entrepreneurship, podcasting, creative work, or other unconventional directions, the greatest challenge is often not the work itself—it is explaining their choices to the people around them.

In our webinar, Careers Under Small Talk, we explored what it means to pursue a non-traditional career in a world that often values certainty, stability, and familiar milestones. Hosted live on TikTok on 13 February 2026, the session brought together students, fresh graduates, and early-career professionals seeking greater confidence in navigating conversations about their future.

Joining us as guest speaker, Kujang Fredy shared his own non-linear career journey, from studying Political Science to building a career across marketing, sales, and content creation. Drawing from his personal experiences as a career-focused content creator, he offered a candid perspective on the realities of pursuing opportunities that may not immediately fit conventional expectations.

A recurring theme throughout the discussion was that passion alone is rarely enough to gain support from others. Whether speaking with parents, family members, or peers, many individuals struggle not because they lack conviction, but because they lack the language, context, and evidence needed to communicate their decisions effectively. The conversation highlighted how unconventional careers often become credible over time—not through blind optimism, but through consistent learning, measurable progress, and a clear understanding of what success looks like.

The session also challenged the assumption that unconventional paths are inherently risky while traditional paths are inherently safe. In a rapidly changing world, career stability increasingly comes from adaptability, continuous learning, and the ability to create value, regardless of industry or job title. Understanding one's strengths and aligning them with emerging opportunities can often be more important than following a predefined route.

What made the discussion especially meaningful was the openness of participants who shared their own concerns, aspirations, and experiences. The questions reflected a common challenge faced by many young people today: how to remain true to their ambitions while navigating expectations from those who care about them.

His story demonstrated that successful careers are not always linear, and that meaningful opportunities can emerge when individuals are willing to explore beyond the boundaries of their original plans.
